As a visual ethnographer with a background in social and clinical psychology, Renate has dedicated her career to researching sustainability issues. Using their experience in visual methodologies and ecological anthropology, Renate is currently conducting research at the Erasmus University on sustainable foodscapes.
In her free time, she manages and produces content for Surfrider Netherlands, an organization dedicated to protecting the world's oceans. During her Msc in Visual Ethnography, Renate created the documentary 'In the Arms of the Ocean', which explored the relationship between humans and the ocean. She is interested in exploring local ecological knowledge, climate justice, and the intersection of art and science, with a particular focus on documentary work and post-humanism. Overall, her work is driven by a desire to understand and improve our relationship with the natural world.
